Daboia siamensis (Eastern Russel's viper)


Venom composition
The venom proteome of Daboia siamensis (collected in Myanmar) was analyzed by 2-D electrophoresis, subsequent MS/MS and enzymatic assays (Risch et al., 2009 ). The proteome comprises toxins from six protein families:
Serine proteases, snake venom metalloproteinases, phospholipase A2, L-amino-acid oxidases, vascular endothelial growth factors (PDGF/VEGF growth factor ) and C-type lectin-like proteins (also named snaclec ). Neither cysteine-rich secretory proteins (CRISPs) nor “free” disintegrins were identified. However, the presence of low molecular mass (less than 10 kDa) disintegrins cannot be excluded because only proteins of more than 10 kDa have been identified (Risch et al., 2009 ).
Surprisingly, trypsin inhibitors from the Kunitz-type family, have not been reported in this study. However proteins of this family have been sequenced (see proteins by clicking on the “Proteins by Family” tab) and characterized (Guo et al., 2013 ). In addition, strong trypsin inhibitory activity has been detected in Russel’s viper venom from Eastern India (Mukherje et al., 2000 ).

Lethal dose Lethal dose is 0.7 mg/kg by intravenous injection into mice (Mukherje et al., 2000 ).
