Bothrops barnetti (Barnett's lancehead) (taxid:1051630)

Venom composition image
Figure 1: Composition of B.barnetti venom, studied at the proteomic level (Kohlhof et al., 2012). The venom contains the following families: disintegrin, CRISP, PA2 (phospholipase A2), serine protease, C-type lectin (true venom lectin), LAAO (L-amino-acid oxidase also known as flavin monoamine oxidase), SVMP (snake venom metalloproteinase).
Clinical Effects, Treatment, Antivenoms See the Clinical Toxinology Resources Website.
Lethal dose LD(50) is 5.058 mg/kg by intraperitoneal injection into mice (86.9-120.4 ug/mouse) (Kohlhoff et al., 2012).
Miscellaneous Bothrops barnetti is an endemic venomous pit viper native to the Pacific coast of northern Peru and the south east of Ecuador. Its habitats are low elevations in arid to semi-arid tropical scrub where it is the main poisonous snake responsible for human accidents (Vivas-Ruis et al., 2013 and references therein).
