Figure 1: Composition of B.atrox venom, studied at both proteomic (A) (Kohlhoffa, et al., 2012) and transcriptomic levels (B) (Neiva et al., 2009). Disintegrins have been detected by proteomic analysis but not by transcriptomic analysis, suggesting that they are encoded by the SVMP family. VEGF (PDGF/VEGF growth factor), PA2 inhibitor and BPP precursor (bradykinin-potentiating peptide) have only been detected by transcriptomic analysis, whereas all other families have been detected by both proteomic and transcriptomic analysis. CRISP, PA2 (phospholipase A2), serine protease, C-type lectin (true venom lectin), LAAO (L-amino-acid oxidase also known as flavin monoamine oxidase), SVMP (snake venom metalloproteinase).

Lethal dose LD(50) is 5.89 mg/kg by intraperitoneal injection into mice
(117.8 (103.7-137.3) ug/mice) (Kohlhoff et al., 2012).
