The following families are represented: CRISP, PLA2 (phospholipase A2), LAAO (L-amino-acid oxidase), true venom lectin, SVMP (snake venom metalloproteinase), serine protease, BPP-natriuretic peptide (bradykinin-potentiating peptide and natriuretic peptide), NGF-beta, ohanin/vespryn, 5'-nucleotidase, hyaluronidase (glycosyl hydrolase 56), svVEGF (PDGF/VEGF growth factor), disintegrin.
Calvete et al., 2009 also describes the characterization of the venom proteome of B.Pauloensis. CRISP and PLA2 families are most abundant in this study, whereas serine protease BPP-natriuretic peptide families are less abundant.

Some history Neuwied's lancehead, a B.pauloensis patronym honoring Prince Alexander Philipp Maximilian zu Wied-Neuwied (1782?1867), the German explorer and naturalist,who led an expedition to southeast Brazil from 1815 to 1817, and found the tribe of the Botocudos, about which he gave exact details for the first time.
